Default Why are my column breaks forcing a page break at each row?

In my document, I have set up a new Continuous Section where I have set
Formatted Columns to 4. After each row, my document is paging instead of
continuing the next row on the same page.

Document Diva,
Is this the same when you activate Print Layout view instead of normal view?

Luc:

I usually work in Normal View and then do a Print Preview. The program
always changes to Print Layout somehow. Normal view just shows me the column
breaks and no page breaks. Print Layout shows a page break after each row,
yes. Print preview agrees with Print Layout showing one row per page. Thank
you.

What should I do next?

Are there any manual page breaks in the column? If not, are there many
successive paragraphs formatted as "Keep with next" and "Keep lines
together"?

There are no manual page breaks in the column. I searched on each of the
"Keep with next" and "Keep lines together" individually and found none.

One last thing to check is the column widths (Format | Column). Word has a
nasty habit of sometimes formatting some of the columns too narrow for use.
If this is not the issue, you can send a sample doc to my email, and I'll
take a look at it.

What 'Column Breaks' are you referring to? Unless you are *inserting* Column
Breaks there shouldn't be any visible in the doc even with non-printing
characters displayed. In Print Layout view the text simply wraps to the next
column & in Normal view the text shows as one continuous run.

If you *are* inserting the breaks they could be the source of the problem.

That's exactly what I was doing. USER ERROR!!! DOH!!! I also was thinking
that it would work differently where I could input my info in the columns,
row by row, and it would fill the page before it went to the next page.
That's also why it wasn't working the way I was used to it working. I ended
up imputting my info differently than I originally started out doing it so
that it would work correctly. I just had to step away from it for a day ...
Thanks for your help. And for Luc's help, too.

Document Diva,
Glad you solved it, just thought you were viewing in normal layout which
leads many people to think they do not have their columns. My next
suggestion would have been that you had inserted the column breakes
yourself.
