When an email message is put into either 'reply' or 'forward' mode, suddenly
paragraph marks appear throughout the message. I don't know where they come
from, nor do I know how to remove them. Any help will be appreciated.

Press CTRL+* or click the ¶ button to hide the marks (it's a toggle
setting).
