Default Adding text to a word document

I received a word doc and want to use it as a template. When I try to type,
in the doc, the lines and spaces move. I just want to enter text in the
fields but it looks like I need to change the formatting. I'm using Word 2003
and am not very experienced in word. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Default Adding text to a word document

If the document is supposed to be used as a form, the usual approach is to
add table cells (with fixed dimensions) to prevent the layout from changing.
