Default List of Figures

I am working on a thesis in Word 2003 that has numerous tables,
figures, and photos and I have generated three separate Lists of Figures.
The thesis format requires that only the number be printed next to the
caption in the lists. The numbers are decimal aligned in a column below the
words "Table, Figure, and Photo," respectively.

Is there a way to do this. I know you can either display or not display the
label and number, but I haven't found a way to display the number without the
label.

I have been working with this for quite a while and can't seem to find way
to do it automatically. I can manually delete the labels in the lists, but
when I update the entire table, the labels return and have to be deleted
again.

Any suggestions you have would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Cheri

I have no clue what is different in this job that is keeping it from working
like the others. I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can offer. I
have spent way too much time on this without any success.

Thanks,

Cheri

You should toggle the TOC field to show the field codes, then open the Help
topic on the TOC Field to interpret the switches you're setting.

In short, I don't think you can do what you want with the \c switch. I think
you'll have to use TC fields. It's sort of like embedding an index marker,
but for items you want to put in a TOC.

Maybe it would just be easier to do a search and replace on the TOC result
each time to replace Figure# with nothing.

PS: Once you've got the correct figure caption text in place, if you select
Update Page Numbers Only, Word won't re-insert the "Format" part. It just
updates the page numbers.
