How to format date field
Am trying to insert Date field into template letterhead.
Have followed help screen (insert \ date & time \ choose what format \ automatically update etc) but I want the date that the letter (which is saved as a separate document) is written to stay the same regardless of when the letter is opened whilst, at the same time, allowing the template to display the current date the next time I write a letter. The first bit is fine but when i then open the template it is still displaying the date that I set the template up - i.e. it is not automatically updating in the template. Any advice gratefully recieved |

How to format date field
Use a createdate field in the template. That will always show the date the
template was created, but new documents created from the template will show the dates they were created. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Tony Greer wrote: Am trying to insert Date field into template letterhead. How to format date field
Insert the CREATEDATE field into your template. Then make sure to
create documents based on the template. Do not open the template itself (unless you want to edit it, of course). Since you've already inserted a DATE field, you can change the field code to a CREATEDATE field: Press Alt+F9 to display the field code, replace DATE with CREATEDATE, press Alt+F9, press F9 to update. Save and close the template. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Tony Greer" wrote in message ... Am trying to insert Date field into template letterhead. Fantastic - you don't know the hours I've spent trawling the internet and
experimenting with this. Thank you so much for the step by step guide "Stefan Blom" wrote: Insert the CREATEDATE field into your template. Then make sure to create documents based on the template.
