How do I view gridlines on labels?
Labels exported from Access to Word do not show the label gridlines. I've
tried 'Table/Hide-Show Gridlines - doesn't work. Tried Drawing Toolbar - doesn't work. |

How do I view gridlines on labels?
The first response that came to mind was "open your eyes?" We are not
mind readers and you are more likely to get a comprehensive and accurate answer if you spend a little time explaining your exact problem. What you are doing, what you have done, your version of Word (it really matters), etc., rather than exclaiming that your "problem" is exactly like someone else's question! Who knows, perhaps being asleep at the keyboard was their problem. If you have the same problem well ... A label template is just a Word table without borders. Borders print and may be present or absent. Gridlines don't print and are always present. While present they may be hidden from view by a) a border or b) the view is toggled off. I assume that you have Word2003 as I don't know and I don't know what version your compatriot with the exact question had. Click the Table menu and then click Show gridlines. How do I view gridlines on labels?
Voldemore,
As I have discovered that there is in fact a post decribing the problem linked to your post and visible in the microsoft newsgroups via OE (it isn't shown in Google Groups), I will concede that my reply was a bit over the top and apologize. I am sorry. While you understandably think I was venting on you, it was actually just built up frustration over a bevy of recent posts where the user seems to assume that the folks that routinely read and try to answer questions in these groups have a crystal ball. Searching Google Word Groups only returns: "When I create labels & merge to a new document, no gridlines show, and there is a paragraph mark at the end of each line of data AND at the end of the data group, just like Sam's sample. It doesn't LOOK like it's a table, but it is." Fellow MVP Grahm Mayor (who is a veritable expert with labels and mailmerge) replied that that was normal behaviour. -- Greg Maxey/Word MVP See: http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/word_tips.htm For some helpful tips using Word. How do I view gridlines on labels?
I think I can speak to the problem, and the "Drastic" measures I took to fix
them. My issue is this... up until about a week ago, I used a word template downloaded from Avery.com that I used to print file folder lables. Whenever I would open the doc, it showed a non-printed "phantom" grid, outlining where each lable was AND the spacing in between. This allowed me to determine which/where each label was, and allowed me to only print one or two labels at a time. As of a week ago, no more grid lines. I also posted that my bullet points were not behaving correctly either, and even pasted an example. I restored every default, I did the custom settings, I checked every view, I did everything I thought I could. Finally, I gave up hope on Google and on here, did the repair/restore, and everything is now fixed. Granted, I had to recreate my custom tool bars and settings... but it got rid of ALL the problems I was having. All hail Office 2003... Resistance is Futile... and expensively upgradable. |
