Default Bookmark, X-Ref????

I really don't know what it is I need to do, but this is what I would like:
I am in the process of creating a job aid booklet which is over 150 pages so
far and I'm not done. Here's an example of what I'm trying to do: On page
29, in the text it says "see page 14....". In the creation of this booklet I
could very well make changes and insert several pages before page 14, so that
what I am referencing on page 29 is no longer on page 14. I want "see page
14" to update to "see page 20", if it's now on page 20. Do you know what I
mean? I've searched help and other places but I'm not getting the answer I
need and the how-to. Can someone help me? Just point me in the right
direction. I can figure it how if I get on the right track. Thank you
Connie

Insert a bookmark at the place you're referring to.

At the place where you put the reference, insert a PageRef field containing
the name of the bookmark. In Word 2003 and earlier, use the menu command
Insert Field. In Word 2007, click the Quick Parts button on the Insert
ribbon and choose Field from the popup. In either case, you get to the
Insert Field dialog, where you select PageRef from the list of field types,
and then select the bookmark name from the list in the center of the dialog.

After some editing changes the location of the bookmark, you have to update
the reference field to make it change. The two easiest ways are (1) press
Ctrl+A to select everything, then F9 to update all the fields; or (2) go to
Print Preview and then close it (this assumes you have turned on the option
to update fields when printing).

Thank you, Jay. It's slightly different in Word 2000, but this got me on the
right track. You have to click on "bookmark" tab to add it to the Pageref.
Anyway, I think I've got it working now. Thank you very much. Connie

An omission in my preceding post. In the InsertField dialog you have to
click on "Options" to complete the task. This is for Word 2000. Connie

I suspect that the Insert | Cross-reference dialog exists in Word 2000, and
it is much easier to use than the Insert | Field dialog for this purpose.
