How do I stop Word switching to right-to-left text?
As I am typing in Word I use the navigatin keys to move around. Unfortunately
there is a combination of keys that sets the paragraph to right-to-left (e.g. Arabic) style, and of course this completely changes the way the keyboard works. For example the left button goes right and the right left and so on. This happens frequently because the key combination involves the arrow keys, shift and ctrl, which are I use all the time for jumping to the end of a line. How do I turn this setting off? I don't think computer is not set up for any languages than English and American English, so I am no quite sure why this would happen. |

Sounds like the registry Word keys may be messed, or the NORMAL.DOT
You can try closing Word, then re-naming NORMAL.DOT (it's a hidden file) then re-starting Word, NORMAL.DOT will be re-built with brand new settings. If that doesn't work you can delete the newly created NORMAL.DOT and rename the old one back. If that doesn't do it, then you could delete the Data and Options keys (export them first for backup in case that doesn't work either) - they are in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\office\10.0 (the version number refers to the version of Office 10.0=XP) Once you re-start Word, these keys are re-built with default settings - if the problem is still there, then simply double-click the saved registry keys to bring back the original settings. Hope that helps - Good Luck Al "Boud" wrote: As I am typing in Word I use the navigatin keys to move around. Try this:
1. Click on Start | Control Panel | Regional and Language Options | Languages tab. 2. Click on Details | Settings tab. Set the "Default input language" to English (US) or whatever you use. In the "Installed services" section, remove any languages that you don't use. Click on OK. 3. Uncheck the "Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages (including Thai)" and "Install files for East Asian languages" boxes | Apply | OK, and then restart the computer.
