I have edited my thesis with lots of endnote refs.
But they always stay at the end of the doc even I chose to place them at the
end of section. I am using word xp at office and word 2003 at home, is this
the problem?

Switching between versions should not make a difference.

Are there Section Breaks separating your sections?

Look under File | Page Setup (Layout tab), and make sure the "suppress
endnotes" box is not checked--you will need to have your cursor in the
section where the endnotes do not appear to check this.
