Drive or Network Connection Unavailable
Word 2000
I have a user that who is getting the following message each time that she starts Word. "The drive or network connection that the shortcut 'Shortcut to ALSBJulyTIME_FORM.lnk" refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available, and then try again." I am unable to find a shortcut on her machine by that name, and a quick search of the registry did not turn up anything either. The fact that this message only appears when she is opening Word makes me think that it is being caused by a template that is loading, or maybe by a toolbar within Word, or even a macro that is running when Word opens, but thus far I have been unable to find the source of the problem. I tried deleting Normal.dot so that a new one would be created, and I removed all the templates from the Word startup folder, but the error message persists. Does anyone know what is causing this error, or have suggestions for additional things that I have not tried? Thanks for any help that you can offer. --Tom |

I solved the problem. I opened Word and went to Tools Options File
Locations, and noted the Startup folder for Word. I then checked that folder and found the shortcut called "Shortcut to ALSBJulyTIME_FORM.lnk". I deleted that file, and the problem was fixed. However, I'm still a little fuzzy on why this problem occurred. Does Word attempt to open shortcut files that are in the Startup folder? --Tom "Thomas M" wrote in message ...
