Word changes reviwer's name to "author" when redlined doc is saved
I'm currently working on a red lined lease within Word 2003, SP2. My boss
and I are making changes to the same document, back and forth. When he saves the doc. and e-mails to me, his changes show us as coming from "Author" with no date and time, even though his name and initials are recorded in his User Info tab of his Options Menu. When I make changes and run my cursor over them, I see my name w/date & time but as soon as I save the document, it changes it to "Author". How can I fix this on both machines so Word retains the original author's name and preferred editing color? |

Hi,
Go to Tools | Options | Security, then uncheck "Remove personal information from file properties on save." Follow this procedure on your computer and have your boss (or anyone else that is tracking changes) do the same. WOW, that did the trick Doug! Thanks so much for your help. The other
problem I'm having with our Track Changes function is Word does not automatically choose a different color per reviewer, even though both our defaults are set to use a certain color per author. Also, the original author does not have his personal information in the Properties of the document. So, does that mean any changes he has made will always show up as "Author"? Under Options | Track changes, be sure to select "By Author" as the comments
color. You might not end up with the color you want for yourself, but at least all of the author colors will be distinct. I have found in Office 2003 that the color of comments tends to change. I at one point was trying to make all of my comments green because, hey, I like green, but when I look at the comments on my friend's computer, they were like blue or something. Stick with the boring "By Author" selection. You must have user information in Options | User Information for the name to show up in comments. You can't go back to old comments and add a name to them once they are created. In fact, if you change the name in User Information and make additional comments, they will appear as if another user made them.
