I have a small problem. I have two pc's - 1 can do this, one can't. I
have a document that has a table in it where I can paste a whole
document (not the text, the document itself) into the existing word
document. For the pc that can't do this, I've uninstalled and
reinstalled office, added all of the features for word and even created
a new profile on the pc. I logged into the pc under my user id and I
have the same problem. On the second pc, it's no problem pasting the
whole document into the table. What could possibly be causing the
problem with this one pc?

Well, you can't do that. You can select the file using Insert | File, or you
can open the file and copy all its content and then paste into another
document, but you can't paste a file into a document.

work?

Can you paste anything else in Word?
Do you get any options if you Paste Special?
Can you paste the file somewhere else?

Yes. I think it actually tries to paste but won't show the file in the
table. Yes, I can paste anything else in word, copy then paste for text
works with no problem as well. I can paste the file in directories
anywhere on the computer, but nowhere else in the document. It seems to
be a problem with this pc for some reason.

Suzanne - I know it works, because I can do it on my PC without a
problem. The other pc I try it on, won't let me do it.

constrained - perhaps by a fixed size table cell, or protection of the
document? Can you paste special at all, and if so, what formats are
presented?

The table is the size of 1/2 the page. I tried doing paste special and
that didn't work either. Like I said, I can do a normal paste of the
document file itself on my pc, just not the other pc and all I do on
mine is ctrl+V and it works.

I'm not sure what to suggest. There have been issues with pasting although I
haven't seen any recently but if you can paste other objects normally that
wouldn't seem to be it. There may be an option in Word that controls this
but I don't know of any.

I'm scratching around for ideas - is this limited to particular documents or
can you not paste any word document into any other? - can you paste files
into other applications, Excel say? - can you drag and drop files from
Explorer into Word?

Yes. He had a paste special option and that didn't work either. There
were no other options available. Please advise.

The problem occurs with any type of document I try to paste. The
problem occurs with Excel too. I would appreciate any further

I'm sorry, Lou, but I'm in danger of getting way out of my depth here and
don't know the answer. I suspect it is somehow related to OLE being disabled
but have no clue about how to check this or change it - or even if it
indicates some problem with your installation. Alternatively do you have
any AddIns (Norton, perhaps) which might cause this?

We don't use Norton here. There are no other add ins on the system.
Mine is no different from his but I can do it and he can't. Is there
