Default Word Spell check in spanish

I have installed both spanish and English languages in my Word program so I
can click on an icon in the lower right hand corner of my screen to change
languages.

However, when I want to run a spell check in spanish and I click on the
spell check drop down menu to change spell check languages I DO SEE THE
SPANISH dictionary but after I select it and the drop down window closes - IT
ALWAYS GOES BACK TO THE ENGLISH DICTIONARY. So I cannot spell check in
Spanish.
What is most surprising about this is that I used to be able to spell check
in Spanish by doing what I described above. But now it does not work. I can't
think of any even that stands out in my memory that might have provoked this
problem.

Have you SELECTED the text in the document before changing the language?
