Default Word documents convert to Word Pad when I get or send Word files

I create a word document and save it. When I email it as an attachment it
somehow converts to Word Pad. Also, when I receive a Word document via
email, it converts to a WordPad document. My Word version is Word 2003.

Please tell me how to fix this.

The documents haven't been 'converted' to anything. They are still Word
documents. What has changed is the file association. Fix it by
re-registering Word - see
