When I open a document that was previously saved, WORD opens it with today's
date instead of the date it was saved. The "update automatically" under "Date and Time" is NOT toggled. I need these documents to open with the original date, not with the current date. When I put the mouse over the document before opening it, it shows the original date - it says "last modified" - but when I open the files they update with today's date. I might add that out of all of my saved documents, I have two that open with the origninal date while all the others open with the current date. I tried comparing the settings on these two that are opening correctly with all the others and can't seem to find any differeneces with the settings. |

Could be that the date field code, when it was inserted, was set to update
automatically. I would suggest replacing the the date field code with a text as you open the older documents. -- Kevin Backmann "PatM" wrote: When I open a document that was previously saved, WORD opens it with today's date instead of the date it was saved. The option for updating only applies to a field being added after it is
changed. It doesn't change fields already in documents or templates! You are using a DATE or TIME field rather than a CREATEDATE field. This field should be put in the original template if possible (instead of inserting using the keyboard shortcut or header/footer toolbar button). In the document in question, press Alt-F9 to display field codes. Then change the field to a CREATEDATE field, press F9 and then Alt-F9.
