Default Does Word have a version of formating like Word Perfect?

I have a peer that is reluctant to use Word. She has been using Word Perfect
because it has a formatting block listed at the bottom of the software that
is extremely helpful in alignment of columns with numbers in them, similar to
financial statements. Does Word have a similar function?

Yes, there is a status block, but she will really want to setup and
use decimal tabs to make her columns of numbers line up properly.
When using a proportional font like Times New Roman, the size of the
space is different than the size of the 0 and the 1 takes up less room
on the page too. Therefore, if she does not use tabs, it won't matter
that she can see the status in the bottom of the page, she still won't
be able to align her numbers exactly without using tabs.

Hope that helps.

I'm not sure what you mean by formatting block, but there's nothing by that
name in Word. However, Word tables are extremely good at aligning and
formatting financial data in columns. Look up the Tables topic in Word Help -
in 2003 it's under Formatting Documents; in 2002, under Document
FUndamentals. Also, the following links may be helpful:

Whether your numbers are in tables or columns created using tabs, what you
want is a decimal tab; see
