Default Lower case Euro symbol in Word 97

I was explaining to my father how to insert a Euro symbol, either Alt
+Ctrl+E or using InsertSymbol. He is using Word 97 while I'm using
2003. When he uses the first method he gets a lower case Euro symbol,
which I found hard to believe as both methods produce the same (upper
case) symbol for me. He has faxed me the evidence and in his Word they
are indeed different. Alt+Ctrl+E is generally easier to use, but he
would prefer to always use the upper case Euro. Is this a quirk of
Word 97 that has been changed in subsequent versions?

AFAICT, there is only one Unicode character for the euro, 20AC. If your
father is getting something different, it may be that he is inserting it
from a different font. IIRC, earlier versions of Word/Windows were not fully
Unicode-enabled, and when fonts containing the euro first came out (they
were downloadable from the MS Web site), perhaps the euro symbol was
different from that which is currently standard.

Default Lower case Euro symbol in Word 97

Greetings--

The euro symbol comes in only one flavour, it is neither lower nor
uppercase, it is somehow case-insensitive.
However, if you select an inserted euro symbol, and apply different font
faces, you'll notice that the euro symbol comes in all sort of shapes and
sizes, depending on the particular font used.
Are you and your father using the same font face?
Also note that some font faces do not include any euro symbol (e.g. the
Symbol font does not).

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Robert

Try Alt+Ctrl+4 (not e) for the Euro Glyph.
