Default Help w indices

I am creating a book of the songs I sing. I have 'tagged' each song using
paragraph styles for "SongTitle" and "Artist". I would like to generate 2
indices from this: 1) an alphabetic list of all songs with the corresponding
page number and 2) an alphabetic list of all Artists and for each artist, all
songs by that artist with the corresponding page number.

To clarify, I want the 2nd index to look like this:
Bob Dylan
Blowin' the Wind.............................................. 228
Times They Are a-changing...........................292
The Beatles
Cry, Baby, Cry............................................... ..352

Help!............................................. ...................112

I supect I need to use index fields, but not sure how. I also assume (hope!
- there are 1000+ songs) that I can generate these field codes automatically
through the paragraphy style tags.

Specific help or useful links would be very much appreciated!

The good news is that you can generate an index automatically (sort of); the
bad news is that it requires quite a lot of work on your part and can't be
done using paragraph styles (as a TOC can). For more information, see
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting/Createindex.htm.

I would suggest this procedure, which will reduce the typing requirement to
a minimum:

1. Select a song title and copy it to the Clipboard.

2. Select the artist and press Alt+Shift+X to open the Mark Index Entry
dialog. The artist's name will be shown in the "Main entry" box.

3. Place the insertion point in the "Subentry" box and use Ctrl+V to paste
the title you copied.

4. Click Mark. This will give you an XE field such as { XE "Bob Dylan:Blowin
in the Wind" }

You may want to edit this to be "Dylan, Bob" instead of "Bob Dylan." Also,
note that "The Beatles" will be alphabetized under T, so it would be wise to
index "Beatles, The" instead.
