Default Table Captions at multiple heading levels

I have a file with several levels of headings and I want table captions at
the various levels. Example.
1 Main level
Table 1-1
1.1 Second Level heading
Table 1.1-1
Table 1.1-2
1.1.1 Third level heading
Table 1.1.1-1
2 Main Level two
2.1 Second level heading
Table 2.1-1

Does anyone know how to get this to work with captions so I can get these to
reflect in the table of contents. Thanks in advance. Joy

The conventional wisdom is to give up trying. You can include a "chapter
number" in your table captions (the number must be the paragraph number of
one of Word's built-in heading styles), but most experts advise against
restarting numbering more often than once per chapter.
