Default A password cracker/remover for Office 2003's Word document?

Hello,

I am helping my father's issue with his Word 2003 document that is
password protected. He basically forgot the password for it. What's the
best and free program to crack/remove the password? I assume they exist
now since Office 2003 has been out for a few years. It can be run in
Linux/Debian or Windows (2000 or XP).

Thank you in advance.

Try torturing him: that should stimulate his memory!

Otherwise, search Google where there are plenty of hits. But remember that
you will be parting your credit card or cashpoint card details to someone
who makes a living breaking passwords: do you feel safe?

There's no 'best' and as far as I know no 'free' password cracker for Word.
Encrypted documents are not easy to open- if they were there would be no
point in having such protection. Crackers work on the principles of testing
every possible combination and use various ruses to shortcut the process,
but the fact remains that a strong password is going to take a lot of
processing time to crack - and as Terry suggests, who are these people you
are giving your credit card details to?

Wow, password protection has improved? I remember back in the older
versions like 97(?), the password protections were weak.

I also don't trust those credit card details to others. I was hoping it
was a free download to run on local machine. Hmm, it looks like he is
stuck. I will send him this newsgroup reply to him.

Darn! You're a hard core believer in Word, aren't you?

(Thanks for the morning chuckle.)

Hypnotism has often been suggested and very likely would work.

Ant,

I ran into that problem some years ago and purchased a password breaker. I
had an excel sheet with all my passwords and logins for websites and totally
blanked on the password.

I've only used it once but if you want I can break it for you...except
obviously how do you trust me if it's sensative information

Let me know...
But honestly, I'd buy one of those password breakers online, not too
expensive...
