Default vista to read 2000 document

Well, first of all, Vista is a version of the Windows operating system so it
has nothing to do with what version of Word created the files If the user
has Word 2000 or later installed on their system they should be able to open
the files with no problem. If they don't have Word (or a compatible program)
it doesn't matter *what* version of the operating system they're running -
they won't be able to open the files.
