Default How do I insert a current date in a template and then keep this i.

sOur secretaries use templates for letter etc. Currently the date is input
automatically as the current day's date. The only problem with this is that
when you reprint the document at a later date the date on the print out again
reflects the current date on the computer not the date the letter was
orginally printed. Is there a way to get an auto date into new letter which
is then fixed not set as auto update?

Chrissy.

In your template change select the date field, right click and toggle field
codes. Change { DATE } to { CREATEDATE }. Right click and toggle field
codes again then save the template.

You are using a DATE or TIME field rather than a CREATEDATE field. This
field should be put in the original template if possible.

In the document in question, press Alt-F9 to display field codes. Then
change the field to a CREATEDATE field, press F9 and then Alt-F9.

See http://addbalance.com/word/datefields1.htm for information on the
different kinds of datefields and how to format them.

Thank you, Charles and Greg. The CREATEDATE works perfectly but upon looking
further into the various option I feel that SAVEDATE is most likely the one
to use as some documents are in draft from for some time and the final save
date is the date the document should be saved as, however, when I use
SAVEDATE I get the following instead of a date 00 XXX 0000. Any suggestions
as to why this is?

Chrissy,

After you enter the field you will need to save the document at least once
and then update the field to display the correct data.

Please ignore the last question. I have since worked out that of course the
date does not show up until the doc is saved. Thank you.
