Default Internal Data Integrity (Type4) 1

Close Word.
Open windows explorer
In \documents and settings\your name\application data\microsoft\templates
Delete the normal.dot file
Restart word and try again.

If you are going to replace normal.dot RENAME it rather than delete it so as
not to lose the customisations it holds!
