Default Creating lines that allows text to be typed on it without breaking

Hello, does anyone know how to create a simple 'line', for lack of a better
term, that will allow text to be typed on it without breaking up the 'line'.
For example, see below, if I wanted to type "A" or "B" in the space next to
the numbers below, it will 'break up' the line. Thanks!!

3. ____

Method 1: use table cells with bottom borders.

Method 2: use lines drawn using the Line tool on the Drawing toolbar

Method 3: use form fields
