Default How can I view MDI documents in Windows Vista?

I created MDI (Microsoft Document Imaging) documents in Word 2003 (on my old
laptop which used Windows XP). I have since upgraded to a new Vista laptop,
and Office 2007 Home and Student, but cannot view any of the MDI documents I
created earler. Is there a download that will allow viewing of these files?

Hi Al,

Microsoft Office Document Imaging is an optional installation feature in both Office 2003 and Office 2007. Check in Programs in the
control panel to change the Microsoft Office 2007 feature set to use Document Imaging.

If it's installed it should appear in
Start Button=All Programs=Microsoft Office=Microsoft Office Tools

Hi Randy,

Did you install the optional Microsoft Office Document Imaging feature from the Microsoft Office 2007 choice in the Windows Vista
Programs list?

It's that feature that reads .MDI files.

FWIW, while they did not do it in this case, abandoning a MS proprietary 'better mousetrap' graphics file type after a version or
two has happened before.

Bob, Question I can not seem to find an answer for is I used to have Office
2003. I then upgraded to a laptop with 2007, I can no longer view my old .mdi
files created by the older office. Why would they not include the ability to
read retro format, and there seems to be no way other than find a machine
with an older version to print them out. does that make sense??
Thanks, Randy

Thanks Bob,

Vista is such a strange creature, and it took me a while to find. I thought
it had been installed, and part of it had, but you got some brain cells
going. Once I told MS Office to load all options (I could not find anything
separate for MODI) it kind of loaded. I could now print to mdi, however, I
could still not load. I had to manually hunt for the MODI.exe then point mdi
docs to open using it. for whatever reason none of this went smoothly, but
now it works! Thanks again, have a great weekend.
