Default I need template help

I have never made a template. I need to type many documentss that stay the
same except names, adresses, and some other info needs to be changed. This
computer had Wordperfect on it orignally and Microsoft Word was just added.
In Wordperfect, I redlined the words that needed to be changed. When I opened
the Wordperfect document in Microsoft Word, I saw that the document had
turned into a template. The redlined words were in a lighter shade and were
underlined so that I could change them or insert new info. That was good.
However, I had forgotten to redline some of the words that needed to be
changed. What do I do, in a template, to the words that need to be changed so
that in the future I know to change them? I have no idea of how to make a
template.
How do I make a template from a plain Document? How Do I make a new template
from scratch?
Thank you.

The easiest way to create a template is to use the Save As dialog box
(Office button | Save As in Word 2007; File | Save As in Word 97-2003), and
specify document template as the file type. You can edit an existing
template by opening it as a document, via the Open dialog box.
