Default Removing multiple occurences of index markers quickly

I had created an index for a 400 page document that the author now wants to
delete 80% of. Is there a way to globally remove the markers throughout the
document instead of one at a time? I would like to expedite the completion
of this document.

That will remove ALL the XE fields. In the long run this may be more
efficient than doing it selectively, though, even if it requires reinserting
the desired fields.
