Phone # formatting ok, but I'm not getting the right numbers to sh
I am using OS XP, Office 2007 (Excel spreadsheet/Word doc merge)
I finally got to understand phone mail merge formatting, (thanks much gmayor!) but my first phone number (home) shows as the incorrect phone number. I did all the numbers as explained but I know I am missing something because I keep getting this: Home: ( ) 96-9954 - the home phone number is970) 242-0288 Work: (970) 285-7728 - which comes out correct I have checked all fields in my excel spreadsheet and even added (000) 000-0000 in all the blank fields thinking that was my problem. I have 4 fields to mail merge: home, office, fax and cell; all numbers are properly formatted except the first one in which I get numbers that don't even exist in the phone number. Please help. With much appreciation, Nancy |

Word is performing the calculation 970242-288 = 969954
This is probably because you can enter your phone numbers in Excel in two different ways: a. enter the number 9702420288 and format it with Excel's phone number formatting b. enter the text (970) 242-0288 (Excel should treat as text and not apply its format, so you probably will not see any difference) I think if you can make your data entry and formatting in Excel /completely/ consistent, this problem will go away. -- Peter Jamieson http://tips.pjmsn.me.uk "nrodADAA" wrote in message ... It was driving me nuts trying to figure it out.
