How can I prevent Word 03 from changing a text box size when Tab is
pressed? This does not happen in Word 97, unless I am mistaken, and this
can be very confusing on complex documents.

What kind of text box? If you're talking about the type you insert from the
Drawing toolbar or via Insert | Text Box, check the Text Box tab of Format
Text Box to make sure that "Resize AutoShape to fit text" is not checked.
