How do I convert works documents to Word 2003?
I have seen my question already asked and answered. I have also gone to
Graham Mayor's web site to try the File Converter download. I follow all the steps, but get stuck at merging the registry patches with my registry (right click the patch in Windows Explorer and select Merge). I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Can someone help me? This is really an emergency to me because I am looking for a job, and every recruiter and/or potential employer wants me to email them a resume in word format, not works; they can't open works documents. I have already paid the money to add Word to my programs, but can't seem to figure out how to convert the files I already have. And the amount of time I've spent on this (4 hrs), I could have already retyped the resume. |

Have you extracted the files to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\TextConv folder. It is only when you have the file Works Text Converters in that folder that right clicking on it with the mouse will result in the short cut menu displaying the Merge item. -- Hope this helps. Please reply to the newsgroup unless you wish to avail yourself of my services on a paid consulting basis. Doug Robbins - Word MVP "Lisa9999" wrote in message ... Amongst the files in the zip is the registry patch - Works text
Converters.reg. Unzip this file along with the others to the TextConv folder. Then from Windows Explorer, select and right click this file. One of the options available at the top of the options list is 'merge'. Click this. Click 'yes' at the warning message. This will add the extra keys to the registry that make the converters available to Word. You should then be able to open your Works documents in Word. You probably don't want to hear this now, but recent versions of Works can save in Word document format (file save as). -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Lisa9999 wrote: I have seen my question already asked and answered.
