Default creating an index

i am creating an index and putting it in two columns. If there is more than
a certain number of pages after a name, the numbers wil not indent 3 spaces.
BURTON 38(2),210,226,237,271
Benjamin 92,297
Charles 12,15,37(2),38(4),39,40,56,92,105,118,236,271
Charles Senor 92,104
Cutbird 105
D 92
In document under Charles the page 12 etc does not line up. It jumps down
to the next line and in aligned with Burton.
Thanks
Gayle

Default creating an index

It sounds as if you must be creating this index manually rather than using
XE fields and an INDEX field because (a) the INDEX field by default inserts
a space after each page number, so that even if there were overflow, it
would be only the amount that wouldn't fit, not the entire string of numbers
(that is, Word would be allowed to wrap the line after any number), and (b)
by default all the Index styles (including Index 2, which is what would be
used for your subentries here) have a hanging indent, which would cause your
overflow to be indented more than the entry itself, not less; it sounds as
if your entry has a first-line indent instead. Perhaps you should adopt the
formatting used by Word to prevent both these problems.
