Default Truetype fonts are available by not listed in Word '03

In my font lists for Word and Excel the spaces where the truetype
fonts should be are blank. However, the fonts are there and
available. If I change a font to one of the blank names, the font
changes and then the font name will show, but is still blank in the
list.

I know this is very confusing, but I have done everything I know to
do. The option to show font names is checked. New fonts can be
installed. I don't know what else to do. Since the fonts are there
and available, I can't think that files are corrupt. Help.

Thank you.

Crissy

Hi Crissy,

If these are fonts you've added to your system, they may not show unless they've been installed correctly. See "How To Install or
Remove a Font in Windows" at:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314960/en-us

If that's not the issue, perhaps one of these will help:

Overview of fonts and troubleshooting for fonts in Word 2003, Word 2002 and Word 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313487/en-us

Fonts are missing from the Font list when you click the Font box on the Formatting toolbar in Word

Cheers

Thank you for trying to help me, macropod. None of that helped.
Sorry. I took a closer look at my font list and discovered that the
blanks spots are only up through mid-F. I have 13 missing Truetype
font names, although the fonts are there and available.

I tried reinstalling the fonts using the instructions you gave me.
But because the fonts are already installed on my computer, nothing
happened. I checked my font list again and the same blanks are still
there. sigh.

It's not a printer issue. I have a great and fairly new printer that
works wonderfully. It is selected as my default printer.

I wish I could remember when this started. These aren't special or
unique fonts. They're ordinary ones like Advantage, Architect, and
Artisan. Those are ordinary, aren't they?

Thank you again,
Crissy

No, the fonts you've named are not part of a standard Windows or MS Office installation. They were originally part of the MicroLogic
Software's 'Printmaster Gold CD Bonus Pack' (does that ring a bell?). Maybe whatever application installed them didn't do so
correctly. To deal with that you could try:
.. copying the affected fonts from the Fonts folder to another folder,
.. then using the Control Panel to:
. uninstall those fonts from the Fonts folder
. reinstall the fonts from the folder you'd copied them to.

Cheers

macropod, you are FABulous! Thank you. The stupid thing is that once
I typed that last part I started to think that they probably came with
an old version of some card making program that I may not even have
anymore. Weird that it's only those 13 at the start at the alphabet.
I will do what you suggested and I'm sure the problem will be fixed
now.

Thank you,
Crissy
