Default Using Word 2007 as Outlook 2003's email editor

Can I do this? I've tried loading Word 2003 and Word 2007 on the same PC, but
it creates a number of issues.

No, Word and Outlook must be the same version if you want to use Word as
the email editor in Outlook.

So, can Word 2003 and Word 2007 co-exist on the same PC w/o problems?

No. You can have only one version of Outlook installed. You'll have to
choose which one you want.

This is true, but *Word* 2003 and 2007 can co-exist albeit somewhat
uncomfortably as the OP has found. Outlook 2007 cannot be backward converted
to 2003, so if you want to reverse that little step, you will need a backup
of the unconverted PST file.
