Default Style Separator

I add a style separator to a paragraph. I ran the table of contents, but
when I updated the field and saved the document, the style separator looks
like regular paragraph mark and the text after is in a new paragraph, but if
you do print preview, the document looks fine. Is there a way to fix this.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | View tab | uncheck the
"Hidden text" box | OK.
