Default Formatting %s in Mail Merges

I am trying to format %s in my mail merge. I am looking for 19.4% but instead
get a long decimal (e.g., .1938948349304343). I have tried to use a numeric
picture switch like \# ##.00x but this gets me .194. I know that I can
multiply the field in Excel by 100 but I have several % fields and would like
to try to do it in the mail merge. Any good insight into solving this issue?
Thanks!
