Default No Margins Problem

I am running Word 2003. When I open Word there is no top or bottom
margin ie I can type as if I am at the top of the page.
However in Print preview both margins are there.
If I select header and footer and then close, the margins return as normal.
I have then saved the page as normal.dot but when I reopen I am back to
square one!
I have also put in my standby normal.dot back in, but the problem still
exists.
Any ideas?
Jim

In Word, click on Tools | Options | View | check the "White space
between pages" box | OK.
