Default how do I get rid of header/footer on page 2 of document?

Help menu tells me to click on header/footer, then click to next , then
highlight text, then hit delete key. When I do that, the header disappears
on all the pages.
How do I do it so that only the first page header/footer survives?
TIA

Fay

Enable "Different first page" for the header/footer and then put your header
content in the First Page Header.

Thanks, but how would I enable "different first page?" It's not in the
header/footer toggler. I'm using Word 2003, xp

Click on the Page Setup button on the Header and Footer toolbar and check
the box for "Different first page" on the Layout tab of Page Setup. I would
have told you this in the first place if you'd mentioned what version of
Word you were using. Or you could search Word's Help for "different first
page" and find the Help topic "Insert headers and footers," which includes a
section on "Create a different first page header or footer." See also
