Default In a fill-in-the-blank form, how can I make a blank space close up

I am using the legacy tools to make a fill-in-the-blank statement in Word
2007. I have two questions: first, where there is nothing to enter into a
particular blank, how can I get the document to print without a blank space
there? I want the text to just close back over the space. Second, I have
protected this document so that only the blanks can be filled in; the text
can't be edited. But sometimes the user of the form may need to make some
changes after the form is filled in. How can I enable that?

I hope I've made my questions clear enough. Thank you for your help.

Hi Becky,

The smallest spacing you can have in a text field is a single space - you can set the default text that, if it helps.

If there is a part of the document that is legitimate for users to edit, put a section break before/after it and leave that section
unprotected.

Cheers
