Default hidden footnote

I am working with others on a document with both footnotes and endnotes (the
latter of which restarts numbering each section, about 2 sections every 3
pages). When the document came back to me from someone else, the numbering
skipped between two footnotes. I have reveal hidden characters turned on,
the show text boundaries check box turned on, and when I try GoTo - Footnote
#3, it goes to the beginning of a paragraph middocument where there is no
apparent footnote at all. I was able to fix it by cutting and pasting the
paragraph as unformatted text. Has anyone had a similar occurence and know
what it is?

Thanks in advance.

I assume you've already tried displaying Hidden text to make sure the
footnote reference is not literally Hidden?

Yes, I have turned it on. If you know of a way to display ALL references -
bookmarks, etc., that would be really helpful. I've had problems determining
to what exactly bookmarks attach (location on page or text).

Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately, footnote reference marks, though they are clearly fields,
don't display as such, and hidden bookmarks are just that. You can Browse by
Footnote using the Browse arrows, but that's the same as using Go To, which
you've already done. All I can suggest is just excising several words on
either side of the point where the invisible footnote reference mark appears
to be and then retyping them.
