Default Endnotes

When document was written using endnotes all endnotes posted correctly in
number sequence. However, when a new endnote is inserted, the system does
NOT renumber remaining endnotes. Instructions have been followed to the
letter, and help function utilized to no avail. For example, a new endnote
is inserted which will become endnote 4. Instead of renumbering, endnotes
now read:
1,2,3,4,4,5.....

If you are tracking changes, endnotes will sort themselves out *after* all
changes have been Accepted. Note that accepting changes is different from
setting the view.

Other possibilities:
--the doc was created in a different program and brought into Word
--the original endnotes are not really endnotes, created in Word via Insert
| Footnote
--the endnotes are cross-references, which require hitting F9 to update the
numbering

Are you tracking changes? If so, numbering will not be correct until you
accept all the changes.
