Default word 97 crashes

I have office 97 running on XP . It will not save a full file name, only the
first letter of a file name. AVG can't find a virus and I had the macro
protector turned on.

what am I missing?

This problem occurs when Word is set to (Windows 95) compatibility mode in
Windows XP. Instructions from Office MVP Beth Melton for correcting this:

To rectify:

- Locate WinWord.exe
- Right-click and select Properties
- Select the Compatibility tab
- See if you have a Compatibility Mode set
- If set remove the tick in "Run this program in compatibility mode"

Followed the instructions and it is working now.
I probably set the compatibility mode at some point.
Thanks
