Default Can I get my HP Scanner to save as Word documents?

I have a HP Scanjet 3970. When I had it connected to my old computer with
Windows98/Word 2000, Word was registered as a location where I could save my
scanned document. However, when I installed the scanner on my new computer
with Windows XP/Word 2003, the scanner only gave me save options for email
and Wordpad.

The help information for HP said that the scanner programs the best options
for the computer, but did not give me instructions for adding Word to the
save list.

Does anyone have experience with this scanner and sending the document to
and saving in Word 2003? Is it possible to save in Word without having to
send the scanned item to Wordpad then copying it to Word?

This is an issue for HP and the compatibility of the add-in it provides with
Word 2003; however I am sure that your OCR software supplied with the
scanner will allow you to output to a file in 'wordpad' format. 'Wordpad'
uses RTF format which is compatible with Word. It may also allow you to copy
to the clipboard, which you can paste into Word. Note that OCR software,
especially the cheap bundled varieties, make a dog's breakfast of
formatting. You may be better outputting to a text file and re-formatting in
Word.

Thanks. I was finally able to gain access to HP's site/chat. They gave me a
patch/file that should do the trick. If that doesn't work, I'll use your
suggestion.
