NORMAL.DOT compatibility...?
Howdy, I have Word 2002 on one box, and Word 2000 on another. The Word 2002 system uses a NORMAL.DOT that has loads of info in it that we also want to use on the Word 2000 machine. I just copied the NORMAL.DOT over, but now find that on clicking File | New, only default stuff seems visible. I assume that I have stumbled into some compatibility issue. Is there a work-around? That is, can I somehow extract the info that is in the NORMAL.DOT I have on the 2002 system so that I can use it on the older version? Sincere thanks, -- Kenneth If you email... NORMAL.DOT compatibility...?
Are you sure you installed Normal.dot in the right folder?

Yes, I checked on both systems, and the Tools | Options | File Locations | User Templates locations are correct for each. Do I take it from your question that the 2002 template should work properly on the 2000 system? Thanks for any further thoughts, -- Kenneth If you email... Please remove the "SPAMLESS." |

NORMAL.DOT compatibility...?
I can't guarantee that it would *work* (there are some new features in Word
2002 that might not be backward compatible, and if you'd customized any toolbars to include buttons for such features or something like that, I can see how there might be a conflict), but it doesn't seem to me that Word would completely ignore it. Perhaps someone else can give a more authoritative answer. -- Suzanne S. Barnhill Microsoft MVP (Word) Words into Type Fairhope, Alabama USA "Kenneth" wrote in message ... Thanks for any further thoughts, Did you actually look IN those folders and see that you were replacing a normal.dot and not creating a new one? Open Word and see if you have an additional normal.dot listed somewhere in the templates area. It should work but my win2k machine is down; can't prove it right now. HTH Pop` |
