Default NORMAL.DOT compatibility...?

Howdy,

I have Word 2002 on one box, and Word 2000 on another.

The Word 2002 system uses a NORMAL.DOT that has loads of
info in it that we also want to use on the Word 2000
machine.

I just copied the NORMAL.DOT over, but now find that on
clicking File | New, only default stuff seems visible.

I assume that I have stumbled into some compatibility issue.

Is there a work-around? That is, can I somehow extract the
info that is in the NORMAL.DOT I have on the 2002 system so
that I can use it on the older version?

Sincere thanks,

Are you sure you installed Normal.dot in the right folder?

Hi Suzanne,

I should have mentioned that...

Yes, I checked on both systems, and the Tools | Options |
File Locations | User Templates locations are correct for
each.

Do I take it from your question that the 2002 template
should work properly on the 2000 system?

Thanks for any further thoughts,

I can't guarantee that it would *work* (there are some new features in Word
2002 that might not be backward compatible, and if you'd customized any
toolbars to include buttons for such features or something like that, I can
see how there might be a conflict), but it doesn't seem to me that Word
would completely ignore it. Perhaps someone else can give a more
authoritative answer.

Did you actually look IN those folders and see that you were replacing a
normal.dot and not creating a new one? Open Word and see if you have an
additional normal.dot listed somewhere in the templates area.
It should work but my win2k machine is down; can't prove it right
now.
