Default Address Book Problem

I can't import my list of addresses from office 2000 to 2003. The contacts
list is there but not possible to sort according to either name it is
'locked' the options are available but have no affect. Trying to import the
list again into the Address list does not succeed.
Trying to get Properties for the Outlook Address Book produces the following
error message: The Properties Dialog box could not be displayed. An attempt
was made to open an unsupported property.
Any help would be most appreciated.
TIA Peter.
