how do l open a read only .doc? l have copied it to my hd and it still won't
let me read it. my os xp pro with ms office 2003.

Open Windows Explorer, right-click on the document, select Properties and
remove the Read Only attribute

Even if it's read-only, you can read it. What happens when you try to open
the file? If you get a message, exactly what does it say?
