Default Office 2K Choosing Contacts

In Office 97 and 2002 you can get a mailmerge helper that lets you tick the
contacts you actually want to include in your mailmerge. This creates a sort
of artificial filter. Outlook 2000 lets you filter contacts by specific
criteria (eg all the contacts from the same town) but is there a simple way
to filter so that I can just choose the contacts to whom I want to mail?.
