Default what is "device font" and why can't I access all fonts anymore?

when I go to font, whether from the format - font tool bar or from the style
toolbar in the doc., I get only "device font" and four selections of CPI
sizes.
I can no longer acces any other fonts, although they are shown in the
control panel - font folder.

This is something that just started recently. Does anyone know how to get
rid of this and access teh various fonts which were previously available?

In Windows, click on Start | Control Panel | Printers and Faxes.
If the default printer is None, Generic/TextOnly, or Fax, then
change the default printer to one that is capable of printing
fonts, and you will see more choices in Word.

Thanks for your help. This was indeed the solution, immediate and simple.
