Default Number of Pages specified; Automatic Sizing

WordPerfect has a command that will make adjustments to a doucment so that
the number of pages can be adjusted. For example, if I have an end page
numbered 5, but it has very little on it, I can say to automatically fit it
to 4 pages. It adjusts format size, margin adjustments line spacing, kerning
etc.

How does Word do this?

There's nothing exactly comparable to this in Word, but see
