Default Footer Layout

I am working in Word 2003. I have a footer created for a document that
only
has one section. The footer has certain language that must be left
justified
on the page, but the date needs to be right justified. Is there a way to
keep the text on the same line and only right justify the date? I can
only
get it to work if the text is on separate lines. When I highlight only
the
date and right justify it, all the text on the line is right justified or
the
text appears to be moved off the page.

Have you tried using a right-tab to set the position of the date?
