I have downloaded all of the programs available on the Microsoft website. I
have downloaded all of the updates available also. I have installed all of
the converters that came on the CD and none of these work either. Is there
another way that I'm not trying or is there a third-party program that will
do this for me? The "encoding" window opens when I try to open any of the
files.

Are you trying to import a .wps file, and if so, what version of Works
made it?
